Monitoring in HSB / Wood-Frame Construction

Keeping Track of HSB's Condition, Even Years After Completion

An HSB building is designed to have a long service life. However, most moisture problems do not arise during construction, but rather during the building’s operational phase. A small leak, damaged exterior cladding, a defective roof penetration, or prolonged condensation can lead to moisture in the structure without anyone noticing.

Because HSB elements are made up of multiple layers, damage often remains hidden for a long time. By the time moisture eventually becomes visible, the damage is often already significant, and repair costs are high.

Inscio’s wireless sensors continuously monitor the condition of HSB elements—not through periodic inspections, but by taking measurements 24 hours a day and automatically flagging any anomalies.

Why monitor during operation?

A building is constantly changing.

Materials deteriorate, weather conditions change, and systems age. At the same time, buildings are modified, new systems are installed, or facades and roofs are maintained. Every intervention brings new risks.

Continuous monitoring provides insight into the actual condition of the building envelope.

This allows owners and administrators to:

  • detect leaks early;
  • detect hidden moisture problems;
  • help prevent mold growth;
  • extend the service life of HSB elements;
  • Plan maintenance based on data rather than assumptions.

What does Inscio measure?

What does Inscio measure?

Inscio doesn't just look at temperature or humidity. Our strength lies in combining multiple parameters, with free moisture being the most important indicator.

Free moisture (conductivity)

Free moisture is the most important parameter for assessing the condition of an HSB element.

Our sensors use conductivity to detect whether water is actually present within the structure. This makes leaks, water ingress, and moisture buildup immediately visible—often long before any damage is visible to the naked eye.

Relative humidity

Humidity provides insight into the climate within the structure and helps assess condensation and drying behavior.

Temperature

Temperature helps interpret measurement data and shows how the structure responds to seasonal and weather-related factors.

Dew point

By combining temperature and relative humidity, the system continuously calculates whether conditions are developing that could lead to condensation.

Trends and Deviations

It is not a single measurement that is decisive, but rather the trend over time. It is precisely changes from normal behavior that reveal risks.

Where do we take measurements?

Every location starts with a simple risk assessment. Based on that, we determine where monitoring adds the most value.

Common measurement locations include:

In HSB elements

Monitoring of the wooden structure and the assembly of the element.

Hollows and recesses

Utility rooms, conduit ducts, and other enclosed spaces where moisture can accumulate unnoticed.

Roof Structures

Leaks in flat roofs are often discovered too late. Monitoring the roof as well provides insight into the entire building envelope.

Critical Details

The joints between the facade, window frames, roof, and building systems are often the first places

From reacting to problems to just-in-time

From Reacting to Predicting

Traditionally, maintenance is performed after damage becomes visible or during periodic inspections.

With continuous monitoring, that changes.

Inscio detects abnormalities as soon as the structure's behavior changes. This allows for intervention before moisture causes damage to the wood, insulation, or finish.

Don't inspect just because you have to; instead, take action when the data warrants it.

Why Inscio?

Measuring Free Moisture and Climate

Our sensors actually measure the presence of free moisture based on conductivity. This allows leaks to be detected earlier than with systems that measure only temperature and humidity.

Continuous monitoring

Not just a snapshot taken during an inspection, but 24/7 visibility.

Automatic Alerts

Deviations are automatically detected and reported.

Fewer inspections

Conduct inspections only when the data warrants it.

Longer service life

By taking early action, HSB structures stay dry longer and the materials retain their quality.

How Inscio Helps During Operations

Moisture, humidity, and temperature are continuously measured and converted into clear signals.

The software identifies trends that indicate risks, such as rising moisture, stalling drying, or structural condensation.

No unnecessary actions, but interventions at exactly the right moment— just-in-time.

Monitoring documents how the HSB elements perform from the time of delivery, which helps prevent disputes.

Timely intervention keeps HSB components in good condition and fully functional.

"We believe that things can and must be done differently."

Imagine this: you take your car to the garage for maintenance. The mechanic stares at the shiny paintwork with a concerned look, runs his hands over the surface, and takes some photos. Then he comes back excitedly and concludes that the engine is broken and needs to be replaced.

That sounds absurd, doesn't it? And yet that is roughly what happens during real estate inspections. We believe that things can and must be done differently.
